The Tot Shabbat and Kinderlach Programs
The Tot Shabbat program is for preschoolers and the Kinderlach program is for children in kindergarten and first grade. Each of these programs is designed to meet the needs, aptitudes, and stage of maturity that characterize the respective age group.
Both these programs are intended to be family oriented. Both programs are child-parent interactive with parents directly involved alongside their child.
Classes meet once a month on Shabbat on a fixed week in the month. Each program selects a different fixed week for itself. The parents in a given program decide whether to meet on Friday night, Saturday morning, or mix and match. Classes meet in parents’ homes on a rotating basis. This makes it necessary to limit enrollment to families residing in Central Contra Costa county.
Fees are decided on a cost-sharing arrangement to cover actual expenses for teachers and supplies. Costs are apportioned on a per child basis.
Programming incorporates simple Shabbat rituals and prayers, songs, body movement to music, stories, games, art projects. To the older children we introduce the Hebrew alphabet. In all situations we strive to stimulate the child’s imagination.
