Spirituality is the pursuit of answers to the ultimate questions related to life’s meaning. Jewish Renewal defines spirituality in terms of a single word: connectedness -- connectedness with self, with loved ones, with communities small and large, with the world of nature, with the Eternal Source.

Renewal actively seeks to enhance spiritual connectedness. In its worship services it makes full use of music, song, rhythmic chanting, meditation and dance. It promotes events involving small groups such as interactive parent-child group celebrations. It opens itself to the spiritual teachings of all cultures and religions in a quest for spirituality that draws all of humankind together. It energetically champions policies that strengthen the ties between humankind and Mother Earth.

The movement believes that a valuable function of its gatherings ought to be attenuation of the anxieties induced by the pressures of day-to-day living. So Renewal likes to remind us that there is a time and place for fun, for humor, for playfulness.
