One of Judaism’s glorious achievements is its success in implanting deep within its followers the concept of Tikkun Olam – Rehabilitation of the World. At one stroke it affirms that this world is indeed flawed, that we have a moral obligation to make it better, and that it is within every individual’s power to contribute to this monumental task.

Much can be done to help overcome the many social, economic, political and ecological ills that afflict the world. Whether working for peace and justice, or helping the sick and the needy, or promoting mutual respect and tolerance, or protecting the earth’s resources and creaturely beings – all contribute to making the world a better place.

Jewish Renewal encourages involvement in programs of social responsibility at all levels: At the national level, at the communal level, at the personal level. It is through such actions that we best fulfill ourselves as Jews and as human beings. A vision without a task is an idle dream. A task without a vision is mere drudgery. A task plus a vision is Tikkun Olam.
